Nicole Clark (Wong) dreamed of being an entrepreneur for a long time. Bifurcations with jobs as a pastry chef, a photographer’s assistant, a magazine fact checker, a gallery receptionist, a stylist assistant were only training for the building of her Cake Topper business.
For all the humor and cuteness exuded by her figurines, Nicole takes her work very seriously, spending many hours reproducing her clients – with great detail and accuracy - as 5 inch tall characters.
Made of polymer clay, these His & Hers (or his & his or hers & hers) cake toppers will last forever. And probably longer than [...]

I discovered the now-my-favorite-spice when visiting Turkey last year. We were served some variation of “tomato and cucumber salad” with sumac at every meal. I loved it. I knew I had tasted the spice before in Lebanese cooking but had never bothered to find out what it was. That is, until I got addicted on day 4 of the trip and then just had to know. Sumac is an essential spice in Arabic cooking, greatly enjoyed for its tangy, sour and astringent taste. The Sumac berries are dried and crushed into a coarse dark purple-ish-red powder. Evidently, I bought a [...]

Just in time for Father’s Day gift idea suggestions, I wanted to share the Dr. Moz’ line of diaper bags which are perfect to make sure that Dad keeps his dignity intact. For all our infatuation with Petunia Pickle Bottom diaper bags, we know that baby’s dad would rather not be seen toting one of those around. No more embarrassing dad with a pretty diaper bag: the Stork Tools messenger-style Daddy Diaper bags offer the requisite manly, sporty look with pockets to fit all of his toys as well as baby’s essentials.
There is also the Dr. Moz GoodFather line of [...]

I live in Las Vegas but hardly ever make it to The Strip. Unless we have visitors, of course. My mom was visiting from Montreal last month (that’s my cute little mom in front of the red mosaic flowers) and we had to tour the latest hotels, with the Encore Wynn Las Vegas at the top of our To Do list. Just like the Wynn, the Encore is a sight to behold. Every aesthetic detail has been orchestrated to perfection. The walls are covered in luscious textured fabrics, archways, ceilings, floors, windows, doors, hardware… Not a surface is left untouched. [...]

I realize I may be getting ahead of myself worrying about Father’s Day (June 21), since Mother’s Day just past, but I tend to do this when I’m looking to buy a meaningful gift for father of my children. I know that I’m not the only one who thinks “what do you get for the man who does not seem to need anything!” Being married to him for 23 (blissful) years and having his three children makes me think I know him pretty well, but when it comes to buying him something, for any occasion, [...]

Is it summer yet? I know I keep asking because we are totally geared up over here (as you could tell from my post on swimwear last week and on the FaceStick sunblock before that). Summer = water + fun. That’s the first thing I think of. Then, it’s water + wet + cold = miserable kids. That invariably seems to be the formula.
With two kids in swimming lessons, many pool parties, beach days and a teenager who lives at the beach all summer, I’m so glad that I found these Ragz pullovers. They are [...]

Like with all my very favorite finds, I stumbled upon One Thread Fair Trade™ by “accident”. If you can call meeting someone through Twitter an accident. Still, right now I am thrilled to be sharing the beautiful product and story of Mayura Kona, the creator of One Thread Fair Trade™. Mayura is a designer at heart (she has a BA in Design/Media Arts from UCLA) and a business person by “obligation” (MBA from the UCLA Anderson School of Management). Her education is what has enabled her to design her gorgeous product while creating a meaningful enterprise that would improve the [...]

I know that I keep writing about summer. But hey, is anybody NOT thinking about summer right now? Living in a beach-side town in Southern California, it is hard not to think of water and sun. And having children, it is hard not to think about protecting them from the dangers of sunburns at the beach.
Glad I discovered this great Canadian company, SunSeals. They make swimsuits and accessories that have unique solar protection that screens out 98% of the sun’s harmful ultra-violet rays. 98 percent! They use chlorine treated nylon/lycra and polyester four way stretch [...]

I came across Mandy Budan’s paintings quite randomly through one of my endless web surfing sessions. That particular session ended right there and then as her work stopped me in my tracks.
The first thing I noticed was the familiar landscape. Mandy hails from Ontario, just a few hours away from my hometown of Montreal. Her collection of shapes and colors perfectly captures the indigenous landscape. I recognized it immediately and delighted in her visual interpretation of the local fauna.
Then, her joyful and captivating use of color. Her colors blend, contrast, clash and harmonize. And while, objectively, they often don’t relate [...]
