I am sooooooooo getting the BioLogic Bike Mount for iPhone for my husband for Father’s Day. Uh, I mean the kids are getting this for their dad for Father’s Day.
Since we’ve moved to the bicycle-friendly Chicago area (it’s flat with lots of bike trails), we are on our bikes all the time (well ok, not so much in January and ok, so, the flat part is a little monotonous for my husband, but it’s perfect for me). We’ve both downloaded different GPS based sports tracking apps. I use RunKeeper and my husband another (can’t remember which, sorry) to keep track [...]

My son is a high school senior and feels that school is already over though there are, in fact more than a couple of weeks left, including finals’ week. With impeccable timing, I have just discovered this line of Ingestible Essential Oils that just may help him get through the next few weeks. I stocked up on Bright Student, Sweet Sleep, and Mood Master formulas from AromaMD. All of these essential oil blends can either be ingested, rubbed on the skin or used in a diffuser. They are all made with medical grade [...]

Dear parents of teens, this is for them…
As we mentioned last week, job hunting is never fun. The looming certainty of rejection (because, no matter how charming you are, you won’t get every job) is not the kind of emotional battering anyone welcomes. But, you might as well learn how to deal with it now, when you are young and resilient, ‘cause there’s a lifetime more of this ahead.
So, last week we covered the basic questions of “what do I want to do” and “where do I go to look for a job”. Assuming that you’ve got that covered, [...]

I got this great cookbook for my husband for his birthday this month. It is called Latin Grill, Sultry and Simple Food by Rafael Palomino. It is a cookbook full of simple, fresh recipes. The other night my husband made the Grilled Chicken Mini Brochettes with Avocado and a Mango-Honey-Mustard Glaze (incidentally, it’s the recipe pictured on the cover of the book and grilled to perfection in our rendition, as seen in the photo below). I never thought about grilling avocados but it turned out fantastic. Use almost ripened avocados. They seem to ripen to [...]

Remember this feature on the Kymera Magic Wand? It is indeed a remote control: “No buttons. Just good old fashioned magic.” What big boy wouldn’t just love to play with one of these?
Well, we’ve been anxiously waiting for Father’s Day to tell you about this giveaway [...]

For the last couple of years, my husband and I have been counseling our oldest child about the daunting job search and job application process. Of course, we want him to appreciate the value of work and the cash thus earned but we also want him to start learning some of the skills necessary in the workplace.
So, as his school year comes to an end and as we have been reissuing our tips and recommendations about the summer job search process, I thought that I’d put it writing to share, should you also have a job-searching teen at home. You [...]

This is a great story and, as you know I love great stories! It all started one night when Rita Sevigny was getting ready for a dressy party. She had a nasty blemish on her arm and did not want anyone to see it. Rita decided to cover it with a Band-Aid. We have all been there, it looks just as bad. Here we are, all dressed up and think maybe one of our children’s bandaids, like Dora or Spiderman would be better, at least humorous. Wrong. So Rita got out her stash of [...]

I’m in love with Paris, which is nothing original; Hemingway, Fitzgerald and Josephine Baker were all here before me. I figure I’m still in pretty good company with Mick Jagger moving up the street and Johnny Depp seen haunting our ‘hood. It is not lost on me that these people are all known for their somewhat wild lifestyles. I’ve been told that its a personality thing, but I prefer to blame it on Paris.
Like some religious fanatic, I love this city so much that I now proselytize on its behalf, which means twice a week I [...]

You will want to know about this product: Sugru sold out within 16 hours of its first release. It’s a new type of adhesive, a silicone that feels like Play-Doh and that forms a physical bond with the object that it’s stuck to. Kinda like the Tack adhesive putty, but on steroids. It’s flexible but strong, safe and easy to manipulate and to use. Shape it and let air dry. Perfect for hacks, repairs, customizations and repairs of all sorts of things. I can think of dozens of hacks just around my office. Here’s from the brilliant young mind who [...]
