Bamboo Charcoal. Black Mystery

9 March 2009 One Comment

c60-bamboo-charcoalBamboo Charcoal? No, nothing like those charcoal briquettes. Bamboo charcoal is an extremely powerful form of charcoal revered for its ability to absorb and help eliminate odors and all kinds of indoor air pollutants including allergens, bacteria, viruses and mold. It’s been used for centuries in Asian cultures to purify air and water and to enhance overall health. Traditionally, charcoal was derived from oak and pine but, since 1996 the BoRim Company in South Korea has developed a process to create charcoal out of bamboo. We like that since bamboo is a fast growing and favorite renewable resource. And that’s not all! Turns out that bamboo charcoal is also a superior, more efficient charcoal. I won’t get into all that charcoal speak, but you can find out more here. Essentially, you’ll learn that bamboo charcoal is much better at collecting and holding harmful substances.

We love the C60 Bamboo Carbon Company’s collection of household bamboo charcoal products. The decorative boxes are pretty enough to display as is. We love the long stalks that we would display in a basket or a funky vase. The smaller round box is great for closets and bathrooms. Either way, take a look at some of the uses of this bamboo charcoal:

c60-bamboo-charcoal-properties

  1. Filter, clean and deodorize the air: Absorbs harmful chemicals and substances from the air. Also good to aid relaxation as bamboo charcoal releases negative ions that freshen the air and FAR infrared radiation that helps you relax, eases joint pain, and improves circulation
  2. Regulate humidity: Absorbs excess moisture in the air, and then releases moisture when the air becomes too dry, helping to regulate overall humidity levels in the room
  3. Replace your boxes of baking soda in the fridge and freezer
  4. Remove germs, bacteria, heavy metals, pesticides, and other harmful substances from fresh fruit and vegetables. The bamboo charcoal will absorb the ethylene gases released by the fruits and vegetables as they ripen, allowing them to stay fresh longer
  5. Filter drinking water: place 2-3 stalks of bamboo charcoal in 1 liter of water.  After 10-15 minutes the water will be filtered to remove harmful, distasteful substances, its PH level will be balanced, and the water will be slightly mineralized with minerals like those found in fancy mineral water
  6. Nourish your plants by fertilizing them
  7. Shield from electromagnetic radiation. Many electrical appliances emit electromagnetic radiation that can raise your body temperature and cause backaches. Bamboo Charcoal absorbs this radiation.

c60-bamboo-charcoal-boxMost of these benefits would be impossible to measure on any scientific level in our own homes, but I’m willing to try this just on the air filtering and odor absorption benefits which I know to be true. Also, isn’t this a way prettier, more energy efficient way to filter the air our homes (and offices)? Great gift idea for anyone who’s just moved into a new home too!

You can find these and other bamboo charcoal products right on the C60 Bamboo website or in our Amazon Gift Ideas widget in the right column.

I won the giveaway for these bamboo charcoal products and simply love them! I put one of the air fresheners in Sean’s room, a teenage boys room, and it worked wonders! I am very allergic and hate cover-up fragrance products! These are all natural, get rid of odor and no cover-up smell. I love the soap too! Very happy! I would buy again to replace and recommend to friends.
