Alone This Valentine’s Day? Try These Dating Apps

By Audrey van Petegem, Chief Editor
A high school friend of mine is just going through a divorce and getting back on the dating scene. He is successful, attractive and with a great sense of humor. At age 50, he does not want to settle down but rather, wants to have fun and simply enjoy someone else’s company. Although, he has not had any problems meeting women, he still finds it challenging to meet someone who has similar interests, tastes and is old enough to have watched Seinfeld as an adult (and not in reruns!).
Clearly, social media does make it easier [...]

Swivl – A Personal Cameraman

By Audrey van Petegem, Senior Editor
Sometimes I come across a product that has yet to hit the market and I can hardly wait until it does, so I can sing its praises for you here. Swivl by Satari is one of these products. I became aware of Satari when I started following their progress through Indiegogo (a crowd funding platform similar to Kickstarter) over a year ago. I was really rooting for this personal “cameraman for hands-free videoing and I was happy to see other people could conceptualize, not only how cool this product was but, how it could revolutionize [...]

New Type of Magazine Subscription for the Digital Age: “Next Issue”

By Anne-Marie Kovacs, Chief Wife
We all know that print publications – books, magazines, newspapers – have been hurting in the last few year. And so has the music industry. We are just not buying these things the way we used to, even 5 years ago. My family hasn’t had a print newspaper subscription for about 10 years. We get on news from NPR, online and occasionally from television. We are definitely part of the “cause” of the newspaper industry’s decline. And we don’t buy music from CD’s or buy DVD’s. We use Pandora, iTunes and Netflix as our main channels [...]

Amazon’s Kindle Lending Library – Get Access to Over 100,000 Titles

By Audrey van Petegem, Senior Editor
Last year Amazon launched a Lending Library for Kindle and Kindle app with over 11,000 libraries across the US. This means that if you have a library card you can check out ebooks from your local library and instantly start reading them on your Kindle device.
Now, most people think that these free books include only the classics or terribly written books that authors have offered for free because they could not get published. Those were the bad old days. Currently Amazon offers over 100,000 titles, including what is on Best Seller Lists. Never read Dan [...]

The “Precision Shopper” Will Rule This Holiday Season

By Lauren Brill, Guest Contributor
Look out retailers. Mobility gives the “Precision Shoppers” the ability to rule this holiday season as they will be equipped with competitive deals from a host of retailers. As smartphones, tablets and iPads have become more affordable and faster, there has been shift from shopping via the PC to the mobile device. More and more consumers are walking around with a small computer in their pockets when they are out shopping. Companies like Amazon, Google, and Westfield Malls have taken notice and developed apps to help make shoppers more confident and position them to get the [...]

Viddy – the iPhone App for Would-Be Cinematographers

By Audrey van Petegem, Senior Editor
I am very excited about this new app for the iPhone. Viddy is another Social Media outlet similar to Instagram. Where with  Instragram you can add filter effects to your photos and share them, with Viddy you can do the same with videos.
Viddy is a simple way to share 15 second vignettes of life around you with movement, audio and music. There are a variety of different effects to enhance your video. Connect with other would-be cinematographers, Facebook and Twitter friends, plus share on YouTube and Tumblr. Just one more way to bring the fun [...]

Ispo BrandNew Awards for Entrepreneurs in Sporting Goods

We have been exploring lots of websites, products and companies in our quest to bring you the latest and the coolest ideas for Father’s Day. It’s during this exploration that that we can across this organization, the ISPO BrandNew Awards.
As Succulent Wives, sports paraphernalia is not often on our radar, but we love everything about the concept for the Ipso BrandNew Awards. Reminiscent of the Kickstarter crowdfunding program (which we wrote about here), the Ipso BrandNew Awards also encourages inventors and entrepreneurs to submit their creative concepts. Except that in this case, the awards focus on sporting-goods industry entrepreneurs by [...]

By Audrey van Petegem, Senior Editor
Are you planning on traveling with your pets this summer? You may want to check out the Blanket Online ID for your feline or canine. The British Columbia based company uses the web to facilitate getting a lost pet home, no matter where they are in North America.
The tags come in a variety of stylish colors and patterns. Once the pet owner registers with the company, they create an online record with photos, medical notes and other details. If the pet goes missing, BlanketID will broadcast an email to local SPCA, animal hospitals, shelters and [...]

You know the scene. Where’s my phone. I know I left it here. Where’s my phone. Shoot, it’s on silent/out of battery. Where’s my phone…
I’d love to say this happens only to my husband and to my kids, but to be honest, it happens a lot to me too, mostly because I have way too many options to carry my phone. Handbag? Clutch? Computer bag? Gym bag? Phone wallet? Coat pocket? Oy!
So, as you can guess, I’m going to tell you that this little device solves the locating problem. It does, and then some. It’s called the Zomm and, [...]
