Ever wonder who designed that Google logo? I have. It hardly looks designed at all. Ends up that there’s lots of reasoning and planning behind those six little letters in primary colors.
Here’s an excerpt of Ruth Kendar’s (yes, she’s the one, the Google logo designer) interviewed by Phillipp Lenssen.
“I was teaching design at Stanford University in 1999 when I was introduced to Larry Page and Sergei Brin by a mutual friend at Stanford. They were looking at designers to design their logo and website and I was asked to present them with some preliminary design ideas. They liked my approach [...]

From the latest Designboom competition winners. The theme of this particular competition was Dining in 2015 and it got 4843 entries from 98 countries. Din-ink was one of three winners out of 4843 entries from 98 countries. Din-ink is a design team from Italy. In their own words:
“Turn your favourite office tool from your desk in a common cutlery…this is din-ink. A set of pen caps, including a fork-cap, a knife-cap and a spoon-cap, that replaces the normal pen cap during lunch time! All caps are made by annually renewable resources, like natural starch and fibres, to be 100% biodegradable [...]

I have certainly tried my fair share of pseudo long-lasting lipsticks and lipcolors over the years . I always found them to be just…ok. And, I should also mention painful! (Remember Lip Sense from Sene Gence???? Ouch!) These so called long-lasting colors would last through a cocktail hour and then part of a meal. They never did make it through the promised 14, 16, 18 hours. Instead, when I needed to reapply, I always found that the initial layer would trigger a whole unpleasant “peeling off” effect. Not fun.
Undaunted, and still looking for that true long-lasting solution, I’m happy to [...]

I am making these for our Christmas Eve get-together. Seems like the hardest part will be the find a styrofoam topiary cone at Michael’s, hoping that they still have some left and finding a parking spot at the mall. Otherwise, the meringues will come from my second home (Trader Joe’s) and voila! I might create a little more ornamentation on mine though. With fresh cranberries perhaps? Find the whole set of instructions on Dominomag.com. Love that magazine.
I almost feel the Christmas spirit coming on…

Ron Hutt art style is totally up my alley, particularly his Greek Inspired Collection. Clever, wonderfully executed, tongue-in-cheek work that is inspired by contrast. In this case, the contrast of on ancient civilization with our modern antics.
Here’s the Pythian Priestess seated in the Temple of Apollo with laptop computer and wireless internet connection via satellite and Aphrodite arranging a romantic rendezvous with Ares on her cell phone:
Or Apollo being video taped by Athena flying across the sky as a celebrity sun god after his slaying of the Python at Delphi:
In the artist’s own words:
The paintings are a pastiche of the [...]

I was very excited to see that one of my all time favorite brands, lululemon athletica, was featured on Oprah yesterday in one of those fashion makeover episodes. This gives the brand a whole new level of must-have.
Lloyd Boston, author of Before You Put That On, picked the lululemon outfit for this woman that was lost in the 80′s with her workout wear. I love how he “converted” her workout outfit to a casual city outfit by changing the jacket for a cardigan and suggesting the change of shoes. But truly, this would explain one of the reason I so [...]

I love this new service & website launched by Shannon Davis. How clever and how needed! Her cute and functional website, www.beyondmotherhood.com, creates a network that brings together talented applicants and in-need-of-help employers. Having had a foot in both worlds I certainly appreciate the potential for such a network.
In Shannon’s own words:
“Beyondmotherhood.com is a new niche job board that connects employers with the “untapped” workforce, stay at home moms. There are thousands of educated and experienced moms nationwide looking for flexible/part-time opportunities, and Beyondmotherhood.com wants to connect them with employers. Some moms are looking to get out of the house [...]
