The Belly Project: Love your Belly!

The Belly Project website/blog celebrates women’s bellies, that midsection that is the cause of so much vainly grief but that can also manufacture miracles. This is inspiring, to realize that my own belly is looking just fine, rife with its beautiful baby-making history.
Launched by Dr. Karen Rayne, a sex educator who blogs about adolescent sexuality and by Christy Tashjian, a midwife, this blog invites women to anonymously submit photos of their bellies, each titled only with its reproductive history:
31 years old, 1 pregnancy (1 baby), 38 years old, 1 pregnancy (1 miscarriage), 44 years old, 0 pregnancies, 0 babies, 29 [...]

Just drove by this older Las Vegas neighborhood (the newer neighborhoods are all hidden behind walls, you can’t see a darn thing!) and was delighted to stumble upon these handmade 3D deer lawn ornaments. Just had to share… Kuddos for the originality and the effort.

Favorite iPhone Game: Labyrinth Light Edition

I going to sound like a back-of-the-1950′s-magazine-advertisement now, but strangely enough, it’s a case of  download this iPhone game app and “impress your friends”. The graphics of the little steel ball rolling around the mini wooden labyrinth are just too perfect. It feels like you are playing the real thing. You can even calibrate your phone to make sure that the steel ball rolls on the correct plain. I showed off the game to subjects in every age category from 8 to 68 and all marveled. It’s challenging enough for gamers and just manageable enough for neophytes.
The best part: it’s [...]

Luggage Art at Sacramento Airport

Nothing like a little bit of humor to help relieve the stress of traveling… This photo is gracieuseté of my hubby that was at this airport this morning and knows how much i appreciate this kind of stuff. Thought I’d share…  Oh, so, there are multiple sculptures of the sort in the airport that wrap around – and disguise unsightly columns.

Musical Bicycle Accessory – “Sound From Wind”

How brilliant. This bicycle handlebar accessory by Joseph Kim, a Seoul designer, creates music as you ride your bike. The air passes through the flute chambers. You can play your tunes by pressing on the keys attached to the device. What a novel way to beautify your environment. And, with the price of gas being what it is, and with the whole green factor, this is definitely a great incentive to start riding a bicycle. Not sure when this will be available.

Yeah for Nordstrom’s – One Holiday at a Time!

Via The Consumerist by Carey Greenberg-Berger
“Nordstrom has conquered the urge to celebrate Christmas before Thanksgiving. The retailer announced its decision to respect the calendar and common sense by hanging signs declaring that they will wait until the day after Thanksgiving, the earliest acceptable moment, to display their Christmas decorations. The vainglorious announcement is an important indicator that Nordstrom’s competitors have overdone the unseasonable cheerfulness shtick”.
I always respected Nordstrom. Even more now!

Radiators as Food Warming Device

Too Clever! I love this cool design that accommodates a century old idea. There’s a little enviro-friendly touch to this as well. From Yanko Design:
As winter’s cold creeps in, we all revel in the little things to
keep cozy. The Natural Wave is ceramic plate that fits over an old
school radiator. The heated plate keeps your drinks and snacks warm
without having to use additional power and energy like a microwave or
oven. Pretty ingenious and if anything, it makes those old rusty
radiators look a lot better. (Designer: Byung-seok You)
Next, the clothing dryer rack version…

Beyond Motherhood – Flexible Job Opportunities for Moms

I love this new service & website launched by Shannon Davis. How clever and how needed! Her cute and functional website, www.beyondmotherhood.com, creates a network that brings together talented applicants and in-need-of-help employers. Having had a foot in both worlds I certainly appreciate the potential for such a network.
In Shannon’s own words:
“Beyondmotherhood.com is a new niche job board that connects employers with the “untapped” workforce, stay at home moms. There are thousands of educated and experienced moms nationwide looking for flexible/part-time opportunities, and Beyondmotherhood.com wants to connect them with employers.  Some moms are looking to get out of the house [...]
