DIY Crafters – For the Makers
By Audrey van Petegem, Senior Editor
I love the idea of creating something beautiful. And when someone compliments me on it I can then say ‘thank you, I made it!’ Sadly, I am not that creative, but there is hope for me yet with For the Makers. This crafty do-it-yourself monthly subscription company was created by Katie Covington and Janet Crowther, who met over ribbons, sequins and beads when they were both designing jewelry for New York fashion houses. They felt that, given the right guidance and material, anyone can learn how to create something beautiful and inspire others to do the same.
Each month For the Makers will ship to your home materials and instructions for four to six do-it-yourself craft projects. The content includes an assortment of hand-picked, high-quality materials to make everything from jewelry to clothing accessories to ornaments (here are some examples of past projects). Once the materials arrive at your doorstep, the For the Makers website will provide detailed how-to instructions for each project, as well as a space to share photos with friends and fellow crafters.
To join, go to FortheMakers.com. The monthly cost is $29.00 per month, which includes materials for four – six projects every month, access to expert craft tutorials and free shipping. This would make a great Mother’s Day gift, wedding or graduation gift for the crafty person or, like me, someone who wants to be.
