Frustration-Free Packaging Coming to Amazon.com. Thank YOU!
I just learned of this a term – Wrap Rage – that is so perfectly fitting to a situation that we’ve all experienced: trying to pry our way into that clamshell plastic package while not damaging the item (can you feel the scissors’ handles dig into your fingers? The box cutter flying away, dangerously close to your skin?). Or worse, trying to keep a small child at bay (because of the dangerous shard of ripped clamshell parts in the area, and the deadly artillery collection lying about to help open the darn thing)as you desperately look for that last invisible twist tie, elastic or piece of tape that is holding the toy hostage. Well, 20 twist ties ago, you were sure it was the last one… With a sigh of relief, you finally, several minutes later, extract the object of desire, only to find yourself faced with a mountain of un-recyclable trash. Now, was all that packaging really necessary? Aside from creating factory jobs in China, I mean.
So, I’m glad to share that Amazon.com is doing something about this absurdity by working with some manufacturers (Fisher Price among them) in order to simplify packaging and reduce the amount of wasted materials.
Click on this image to view the video that will serve as an unnecessary reminder of what Wrap Rage can feel like.
Here is their collection of “frustration-free” packaging products. Not nearly enough stuff, but hey, as they say, it’s a start.
I seriously applaud the effort and will be looking to Amazon.com first to see if a product comes in frustration-free packaging (are we calling this FFP for short yet?).
Hurray and thank you!
