iPhone Yoga App with Deepak Chopra

1 March 2010 One Comment

I’m no good on my own. For yoga and working out, that is… If I can’t make it to class and need to work out at home, my workout is invariably interrupted by any variety of suddenly important events (excuses, all of them).  I had been downloading podcasts of yoga classed through iTunes, hoping that these would give me the semblance of a class framework while at home. But, I was never enthralled by any of those and quickly gave up on that.

Now, as the iPhone app world is exploding, there are some better choices… I like the Yoga Stretch app as I can customize my practice with the poses that I want to focus on and the length of the workout. Options include a choice of music and the instructor’s voice over. I would be ok recommending this app for someone who has good yoga experience. Otherwise, the transitions between poses can be though to maneuver.

Authentic Yoga with Deepak Chopra iPhone app

However, for the beginner yogini, I would totally recommend the very sleek and just launched Authentic Yoga with Deepak Chopra iPhone app. It includes a nice introduction to the practices of yoga, step-by-step images narrated by Deepak himself and demonstrated by Tara Styles, and short routines supported by videos to fully illustrate each move. There are three levels to choose from (Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced) and options include a choice of music. I see how this app will improve with the invariable updates, but I like it. It’s an excellent first pass and highly informational and usable as is. Maybe it’ll help me to get to do that Peacock Feather Pose that Tara is displaying on the “cover”. Yeah. Maybe.

It’s $2.99 (apparently an introductory price??) and you can get it here.

I’m definitely going to give this one a try – love the sets tailored to a specific area of strain!
