Is it Hot in Here? Try Dry Babe®

By Audrey van Petegem, Senior Editor

When a women says “Is it hot in here?”, we all know what she is talking about. Yes, peri-menopause and the dreaded hot flashes.

I recently went to the doctor for my annual check up. The lovely “I-just-got-my-degree” Nurse Practitioner asked me how I was doing. I gave her the run down of all my peri-menopausal symptoms: weight gain, irritability, forgetfulness, insomnia and night sweats. She pulls out two sheets of paper. One was on tips for healthy eating (really?) and the other one was on how to get a good night’s sleep. I know she meant well, but I think she forgot that I tend to be irritable lately and this definitely irritated me. I felt like giving her the informative book that I am now reading on menopause and how not to kill the people around you.

Anyway, I digress. At night, I am like a human steamer. A couple of years ago, when I started having hot flashes, I had no idea that I was just entering peri-menopause. At the time, my youngest was four and I felt like I had just stopped breast feeding her not too long ago. I would wake up completely drenched and I would say to my husband, “My God, I must have been sick because my fever broke last night!”

Wendy Colett, the founder of Dry Babe® offered to send me one of her sleepwear pieces that is specifically designed to help with night sweats. I jumped at the chance to try them. The sleepwear absorbs moisture while also wicking it away from the skin. The velour material is so soft and comfortable. The nightie does not constrict and at the same time the style is very flattering. It is wonderful waking up no longer feeling cold, wet and clammy.

Now if I can only get over my insomnia. Better look at that list the young, well-rested Nurse Practitioner gave me.
