Mohop, The Sandals With Infinite Possibilities

15 June 2009 2 Comments

By Shari Bonnin, Contributing Editor

Shockingly, I was a raffle prize winner at my friend Christine Haynes’ Book signing Party for her book “Chic and Simple Sewing”. I ran up to choose my prize. I saw it; the piece of paper that no one had noticed with a photograph of shoes on it. I grabbed it really quick because I knew exactly what I’d be getting, what I’ve coveted for years, handmade Mohop Sandals! And now that I have them I wonder why I waited so long. I’m such a shoe fanatic, and with these, all I need really, is one pair of shoes!

Annie Mohaupt is the hand made artist/cobbler behind Mohop Sandals, dubbed “the infinity sandal” because by the use of various ribbons, you can tie them an infinite amount of ways onto one sandal base that has side elastic loops that the ribbons go through. You are bound only by the colors of the ribbons made and the creativity in the universe.

I’ve followed Annie’s success since her trial and error days starting out when she was giving away samples in 2005 and I missed out. Even those were all to-die-for styles and lots of my friends wear them still to this day. Now she’s got a killer studio with state-of the-art cutting machines and she is still making each and every shoe by hand. Mohop sandals are environmentally friendly using rubber soling made from recycled tires. The wood core is Finnish birch plywood and is topped with a veneer of Maple, Cherry, or Walnut. They are padded where your foot goes and are very comfortable to wear. The soles are wedge soles available low, mid, or high. Of course I chose the high wedge in Cherry (I’m 4’10’’ on a good day). There are also 3 different toe shapes to choose from. They come with a choice of 5 ribbon sets, and you can always buy more on your own. I have been craving hot pink shoes and orange shoes this season, so the other day, I ran to the fabric store and purchased some hot pink and orange ribbon for only a couple of dollars and now I have my bright, summer shoes. You can add brooches, buttons, beads, silk flowers, earrings, or whatever to make Mohops unique to you as well. How fun is that!

You’ll be happy to hear that shipping is only $2 to a.ny.where. And, for our succulent readers, I spoke with Annie and scored a 10% off code. Go to the Mohop site and simply enter code SUCCULENT10 at checkout. Valid till 7/1/09.
