Mosaic as Eye Candy

22 May 2009 No Comment

wynn-hotel-butterfly-mosaicI live in Las Vegas but hardly ever make it to The Strip. Unless we have visitors, of course. My mom was visiting from Montreal last month (that’s my cute little mom in front of the red mosaic flowers) and wynn-hotel-mosaic-momwe had to tour the latest hotels, with the Encore Wynn Las Vegas at the top of our To Do list. Just like the Wynn, the Encore is a sight to behold.  Every aesthetic detail has been orchestrated to perfection. The walls are covered in luscious textured fabrics, archways, ceilings, floors, windows, doors, hardware… Not a surface is left untouched. The most striking and consistently used art décor elements are the mosaics. These are used throughout the hotel and casino.

I was so mesmerized by the mosaic work that I looked to learn more about the design firm behind it. What else do they do? The company is called Sicis, the Art Mosaic Factory. You’ve probably seen the company advertise in Elle Decor, Vanity Fair and AD amongst other publications. Here, simply for your viewing pleasure, are some of my favorite images culled from the Sicis website. If you don’t have the budget to commission one of these magnificent surfaces for your home, perhaps this can be a little DIY inspiration? You know, on a smaller scale. Much smaller, like a hand mirror or something!
