MyShape.com – Fun & Efficient Shopping

29 January 2009 Leave a Comment

myshape-personal-shop1I just read the Fast Company article on the most influential women in technology. Aside from inspiring factor of the article, I was reminded of the MyShape.com website for which its founder, Louise Wannier was featured under the Entrepreneurs category. Read the Fast Company article HERE.

I had not been on the MyShape.com website in eons. Its latest iteration is fantastic. The concept: the customer entersmyshape-outfit-first1 all her measurements and style preferences and then gets matched up with well fitting clothing in her personal style. The style part is subjective of course! Personally, since I find most stores in my area to be thoroughly uninspiring, this might just be the most direct and efficient way to get good clothing in my style and fit.

I did the whole exercise. Filling out the body measurement questionnaire is a little tedious (it’s very detailed). I did skip the non-essential measurement parts like the height of my knee from the floor or the measurement of the front of my bust! But I definitely see how this would be useful data to ensure a perfect fit.

Once that was done, I was assigned with a shape profile (M) and got to go shopping according to my profile and style preference (artsy, modern) by clicking on the “Outfits” tab. This pulled up three pages worth of assembled outfits that corresponded to my shape profile and style. I marvel at the intense data entry (to record every minute measurement of each garment) and technology involved to make this happen. I loved the results. There are even few of the pre-assembled outfits (below) that I would practically wear as-in. Minus the handbags that are not working for me.

MyShape.com carries lots of great brands , “Not Your Daughter’s Jeans” being among one of the labels that my friend Audrey has been nagging me to try. She swears by them.

When I have more time to go shopping, I will do so and report back on the results. Was the fit really good for “my shape”? I’ll let you know. With this economy and our nascent awareness on buying things that last longer and have value, I think that well fitting clothing that I feel good in, in a style that will endure is one of the best purchases I can make.
