No-Guilt “Ice” Cream

24 June 2011 Leave a Comment

We brought you the no-guilt cocktails earlier this week. How ‘bout a little no-guilt sweet treat of the frozen kind for summertime? I just ran across this little “kitchen appliance”, the Yonanas, that turns frozen bananas and other frozen fruit into a creamy, frozen concoction in a matter of seconds.

This reminded me of one of my favorite treats when I was eating all raw: the mango sorbet that I made thanks to my VitaMix blender. And, it’s certainly not that I need another appliance crowding my kitchen – and probably neither do you – but I must say, from the reviews that I’ve read, it seems that the Yonanas could be recommended if you don’t already own a high speed blending machine with which to make these types of frozen treats.

Frozen bananas work best because of their creamy texture and natural sweetness (just as they get quite brown, freeze them for this purpose) but other fruit can be turned into frozen “cream”. Mangoes are great too and try berries & pineapples. Nothing else needs to be added, no sugar, no milk or cream. It’s a perfect raw foodist’s dessert.

For young picky eaters, this might be a great way to sneak in that portion of fruit. A nutrition-packed frozen dessert. Pop some sprinkles on top and really, how could they resist? Great as popsicles too. If you don’t tell them it’s good for them.

Available on Amazon.com for about $49.95.
