Oilily Clothing for Women and Children – For the Young and the Young at Heart

I have been wearing Oilily Clothing for almost ten years now. It wasn’t a new discovery even then as I remember my mom buying an ultra colorful winter coat for my younger sister years and years ago. But the store was new in Costa Mesa, CA when I rediscovered the brand. And I remember being immediately attracted to the playfulness of the colors, the patterns, the details in the design. Like the petticoat under the skirt, laced with ribbons and other tactile details and which main function – since this part of the garment is not visible – is simply to delight the wearer. Of course, upon closer inspection, you discover even more enchantments, like the tiny patterns in the buttons, the interesting pockets, the layering of ribbons and findings at the collar or at the sleeve or at the hem.

There was a store here in Las Vegas until about 18 months ago. It was in a beautiful but ill-fated location and did not surmount the landlord’s fickleness….

But Oilily is so committed to its fans (moi at the top of the list) that it actually comes back to Las Vegas twice a year to introduce the new collections. Now that’s the way to breed customer engagement and loyalty! Indeed, the lovely team from the Oilily-South Coast Plaza store (Namely the charming team of Maisie, Marissa and Nima) hauls most of their merchandise to Las Vegas and sets up shop in town for one day every season to appease its rabid fans.

The current collection is called “Welcome to the Midnight Garden” and features many “earthy” patterns, mainly foliage designs in rich dark color combinations. Oilily introduced black to its palette for the first time last season (which makes the line even more wearable and versatile) and has subdued its prints and tailoring, especially for pants. I’m not sure that I’m crazy about this last corporate decision, which brings the brand into the “main stream”. I love Oilily for its slightly wacky styles. That’s what keeps the brand unique and its styles reserved for a brave clientele. Still, this is probably the reason why I bought a pair of pants from Oilily, the first in a long time. They fit very nicely too.

Why do love this brand so much? A main reason is that I know that I am unlikely to encounter anyone else wearing it around me. Other emotional factors are that I love how I feel when I wear “my” Oilily. Which is
that I feel like an original, quirky and creative spirit. On the practical side, I love this brand because it endures. The designs have just the right amount of eclecticism to keep them fashionable throughout the seasons. No trendy stuff here… I still wear most of my purchases and still love wearing them, 6, 7, 8 years later. Now, that’s worth the price. More reasons to love Oilily? The fact that their color palettes have remained the same, always. This means that the skirt I just bought will go perfectly with that sweater from 4 years ago and that jacket from last year. I kid you not, that’s how Oilily works. And aside from all the incredible prints and patterns and details and designs, that why it’s so cool.
