So Not OK in So Many Ways…

11 September 2009 4 Comments

I am deeply embarrassed to be sharing this but I can’t help myself. If you haven’t heard of it already, you might want to visit the website that pretty much everyone will be talking about real soon: PeopleofWalmart.com.

It’s just not not right to make fun of people like this. I know. But, when I came across this site last night I was, at the same time, completely appalled and folded over laughing. Yes, this is happening in our very own country.

The really admirable part of this website (as if that was of any relevance) is that it was launched less than a month ago and has already attained gigantic viral status. I can’t help but admire the genius that comes up with this seemingly simple concept that strikes a chord in everyone.

From the People of Walmart About Us page: ” This is purely for entertainment purposes and strictly limited to the outrageously bad / ugly / creepy / crazy shoppers….We are trying to have some fun here and there is a difference between someone who is mentally challenged and a person who has a fu Manchu and is still rocking MC Hammer pants.“  BTW, they are in no way affiliated with Wal-Mart who’s PR department must be having a field day.

I’ve always disliked shopping at Walmart and avoid it at all cost. I could never quite verbalize the “why”. I guess that this little photo album fully illustrates the energy of the place.

Congrats to the three young men who launched the site. I’m sure that they won’t be running out of material any time soon.

I have to say that I too avoid Walmart like the plague. I think much of it centers around the fact that Walmart does not attempt to make it’s stores a pleasant shopping experience. Unlike Target (which I love), aisles are crowded, products are jumbled together and there is no sense of waypointing within the store. Unless you shop there regularly, it’s hard to find things. Add to that a cacophony of visuals as shown above, and I just can’t get past it to save a few dollars.

Oh dear! There is something so wrong about this site, and yet something so right. I haven’t been in a WalMart in years, and I just remembered why.

Like trying not to look at a train wreck. I laughed myself silly. Now I know why I have never stepped foot in one of their stores.

Lol…It was fun looking at the pictures especially the lady in gold. I guess it’s there right on what to wear in walmart. hahahhaha…
