Spunky Sprout: Hip Modern Products for the Wee Ones
Joli at Spunky Sprout contacted me a few months ago to let me know about her online childrens’ furnishings store. I’m so glad she did because I haven’t been paying close attention to that product category. I’m past the small kids phase in my home (mine are now 16 and 12), but boy, am I sorry that a store like Spunky Sprout wasn’t around when they were little. Kid’s furnishings were, “back then”, largely uninspired or if of modern and sleek design, they were unaffordable. Actually, the uninspired factor is still omnipresent in today’s market, except for some real gems that Spunky Sprout manages to uncover in all kids categories.
The company was launched in 2004 by sisters Joli and Toni, a contemporary architect and a trained chemist. Their focus is contemporary, unique designs for tots up to 6 years. They continually research and dig all avenues (trade shows, web, artist & designer markets) to uncover upcoming designers, looking for the small companies with the latest and most innovative offerings in children’s designs from all over the world.
They’ve done a great job at gathering unique, playful and functional items. I’m particularly taken by their selection of kids bedding. There was such a vacuum in that category in my era that I ended up making my own crib bedding (turned out well but it was quite the exercise) . If I had just waited a few years…
Good to note: Spunky Sprout also supports REACH the CHILDREN, a humanitarian organization that teaches self-reliance to communities with underprivileged children in Africa. They have developed several products to support that cause. See them here. These make great gift ideas.
Seeing these great designs for babies and tots almost, almost makes me want to start over. Almost.
Stay tuned for a Spunky Sprout giveaway next week.
