Start Your Tween on the Right Path to Healthy Skin

When I attended MORE magazine’s Reinvention Convention this last June and heard Dr. Will Kirby speak about healthy skin (I wrote about this in an article, Ageless Skin De-Mystified), it had me wonder when I should start teaching my girls about skin care. And, are there any products out there, besides acne products and sunblock (did you notice how far we have come since the days of calling it suntan lotion?), that would help encourage tweens (between 8 and 12 years old) to start caring for their skin? I was, of course, looking for a line that was all natural, contained NO chemicals, toxins, parabens or artificial anything. After researching for my own daughters I thought I would share some great lines that I discovered.

Good for you Girls – A natural skin care line specifically designed for young girls. All the products are 100% vegan and are not tested on animals. They are made with the purest organic ingredients that are beneficial and nurturing for all skin types. Good for Girls has the perfect skincare kit to start a tween on a healthy skincare routine. It includes a cleanser for washing off dirt and grime, a toner to balance pH and remove bacteria and, a moisturizer to help protect and maintain the skin’s healthy moisture. Buy the complete skin care kit from Good for you Girls for $19.99. While there check out their all natural, aluminum-free deodorant.

Glory for Girls – Created by a mother who could not find natural skin products for her own daughter, so she created this line of fun, fresh and safe products for both girls’ faces and bodies. Glory for Girls’ philosophy is to teach young girls to “believe in her unique self and take pride and responsibility for how she looks, how she feels and how she acts.” Great message. Purchase the three step clarifying system from Glory for Girls for $30.00.

bTween Skin Care – Not to leave tween boys out, bTween Skin Care has created a unisex line that is pure and gentle for changing skin at this stage between child and teenager. Also created by a mom with daughters, Kellie Keefe did not want to leave the tween boys out. The three easy step skin care regimen which teaches tweens how to wash their face, cleanse and moisturize comes in packaging suited for both boys and girls. Buy directly from bTween for $27.99.

My next quest will be finding makeup between the play makeup for little girls and the all grownup makeup. I will keep you posted. Oy!

Another line to check out in this category is Ottilie & Lulu. Their SPF Daily Moisturizer was voted a top product by Discover Girls Magazine. The line was also created by a mom who wanted to offer cleaner more healthy ingredients. Check out http://www.ottilieandlulu.com they are also on sale on http://www.dermstore.com

So great how these mom created brands are coming out for tween girls.
