Since we’re living healthier and longer, we Boomers are finding time to do the things we once dreamed of doing. I’m sharing my own path to making a dream come true with you, and hope that you’ll come along on my journey and make your own become reality, too.
Articulating my dream was my first step and I hope it was yours, too. My dream is to give workshops on writing and creativity. I noticed that once I articulated my dream, said it out loud, I couldn’t stop thinking about it. If you’ve done [...]

My new next door neighbor has 2 little kids. When we moved into this house years ago, I also had two little kids, and in the very house where my new neighbor lives there lived 3 teenage girls. I would look at my tiny kids and then at the big girls next door and find it very hard to imagine that my girls would ever be as big, independent and accomplished as the girls next door.
Now, I look at the tiny kids next door and wonder if my kids were ever that small. I watch the sweet [...]

Wow. I know I am not the only one who thinks about the future and wish for this, to be spared somewhat from the ravages of time and to sail through the twilight of my life with ease and elegance. My older sister reminded me again recently about Baby Boomers and their needs. While I fall a year short of being officially included in that demographic group, I do feel their pain. Having been a dancer for 20 years, I understand the need to care for a body not too happy with what it has been [...]

The theater was dark, the movie had just started. The woman was large, slowly making her way down the aisle, popcorn in her right hand, eyes on the screen. Just as she came to my row, she started to edge her way in, then, without taking her eyes off the movie, she sat. On me.
What would you have done?
I know exactly what you are saying. In fact, that question seems stupid doesn’t it? What would I have done? I would have said something like, “Hey LADY! Get off me!” Or maybe something more polite, [...]

I recently created an altar in my home office. It is my private space where I can make the shift from a busy day to one of quietude and reconnect with my inner self.
Some people may think of altars for religious purposes. In fact, the history of a home altar was to bring one’s faith into the home. Think of a Catholic altar with a Crucifix, candles, rosary and prayer book.
To me a home altar is something a bit different.

Ever wake up and think, gee, I’d like to walk over hot coals today, just to see if I can? There was a story in the news recently about a number of people going to the hospital with 3rd degree wounds and blisters on their feet because they were participating in some sort of inner strength and mind over matter seminar. These stories burn me up. Call me a hot head, but I just don’t get it. Walking over coals, climbing deadly mountains or participating in grueling, body-punishing events do not demonstrate anything about you as a [...]

I want to share this story because it is true and I think it is a beautiful story on many levels. It also helps to explain another reason why your small gifts or moments of kindness can be so meaningful.
I was still undergoing chemo, but with my family’s blessing, I took the opportunity during my good week to fly to Maine, which is one of my favorite places on earth.
On this particular trip I stayed in a small town called Wiscasset. There is a bakery there by the name of “Treats” which makes home baked goods. This [...]

I am running down the hall. In the living room there is a party going on and women are dancing to the music. I’m nervous. Very very nervous. One of the women calls to me. Suuuusaaaaan. Its yooooouuurr turrrrnnn! She has a feather boa in her hands and she wants me to shimmy my way into the center of the circle and hoochie koo around with the birthday gal. So instead, I am running down the hall and hiding in the kitchen. Nightmare? No. Totally true. The idea of dancing, letting myself go, being [...]

I don’t have much respect for anxiety. My own anxiety is ridiculously annoying. I was never an anxious person until that cancer diagnosis came from out of the blue. Now I worry about my health all the time. I have read that anxiety serves a purpose: to keep you aware of potential danger, but when you really think about it, anxiety just keeps you in a perpetual state of worry. That can’t be healthy, it just can’t. So I’m doing what I can to kick anxiety out of my head, out of my house, [...]

Have you ever really noticed people’s faces?
In my business as a Wellness Consultant, I see many people each day and am intrigued by their faces! It seems people actually have their lives etched in their faces. I’m not talking about the beautiful aging that shows smile lines, I am talking about permanent expressions. Some look joyful with smiling sparkly eyes, some look angry or surprised with raised eyebrows and a permanent expression of shock, or some look in pain. While driving, people look focused or mad and impatient.
What if we practiced more mindfulness and [...]
