God Save My Shoes. The Film.

By Anne-Marie Kovacs, Chief Wife
Just like any other perfectly normal, healthy, emotionally well-balanced woman, I have a thing for shoes. Do NOT ask me how many pairs I have. That is completely irrelevant to this conversation.
I know you understand. There are so many reasons to love shoes. They can elevate a seemingly blah outfit to one that begins new trends. They can make you feel like can conquer the world… Comfort? Pfffftt… No kingdom was ever conquered on the basis of comfort. Or walkability factors.
But, most of all, I’m quite certain that women love shoes so much because they are [...]

Sh!t Middle-Aged Women Say!

By now, you have undoubtedly seen some of the many iterations, permutations and variations of the Shit Girls Say video, the brilliant piece of pop culture that started it all (still, in the avalanche of Shit…Says videos, my favorite remains the Shit Yogis Say). This meme seems unstoppable. And of course, since we also wanted to be represented, we had to make our own age-appropriate Sh!t video.
Is it hot in here? Where are my glasses? These represent just a couple of the very erudite and enlightened everyday epigrams of midlife women:

Yeah. We talk like that all. the. time.
Thanks to Marjie [...]

A Santa Video That’s Not Just for Kids – PortableNorthPoleTV

By Audrey van Petegem, Senior Editor
Every year at this time, we scour the internet looking for websites that bring out the child in all of us and help us (and our kids) get into the spirit of Christmas. Last year we found several Ho Ho Holiday sites and the year before, some Creative Christmas Magic Sites.
This year, we found another free site, PortableNorthPoleTV which creates a personalized video from Santa. What makes this one different? It’s not just for kids, but also works well for non-believers, aka teens and adults. Santa will tell them if they are on the naughty [...]

Viddy – the iPhone App for Would-Be Cinematographers

By Audrey van Petegem, Senior Editor
I am very excited about this new app for the iPhone. Viddy is another Social Media outlet similar to Instagram. Where with  Instragram you can add filter effects to your photos and share them, with Viddy you can do the same with videos.
Viddy is a simple way to share 15 second vignettes of life around you with movement, audio and music. There are a variety of different effects to enhance your video. Connect with other would-be cinematographers, Facebook and Twitter friends, plus share on YouTube and Tumblr. Just one more way to bring the fun [...]

Food for Thought: Forks Over Knives, The Movie

We don’t mean to be stepping on our soapbox every time we praise the merits of eating healthy (Morgan Spurlock’s Super Size Me, Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution or Eric Schlosser’s Fast Food Nation and Food Inc among others), but we really can’t help but be very passionate about the issues relating to food quality and consumption in this nation where one third of our population is now overweight… and that’s not just the adults. As we well know, this has translated to explosive, record rates of diabetes, heart disease, cancer and strokes and other degenerative diseases.
The Forks over Knives film [...]

“Pretty” by Katie Makkai

You’ll Laugh. You’ll Cry. You’ll think about it. And you will want to show your daughters.
The word pretty is unworthy of everything you will be, and no child of mine will be contained in five letters. You will be pretty intelligent, pretty creative, pretty amazing, but you will never be merely “pretty.” Katie Makkai
Powerful stuff this poetry.

Orabrush – Tame Your Tongue and Your Breadth

You have probably run across these Orabrush videos already. They are a brilliant example of marketing work that actually engages viewers, creates a brand name and produces sales. The adorably snarky humor used in the Orabrush videos is a clever way to deal with the very unappealing subject of bad breadth and tongue cleaning. Gag.
Whether or not you have seen these videos, thought the actor goofy but endearing (his name is Austin Craig) and bought the product, you should know about the very serious (read in a deep, low voice) importance of tongue cleaning and scraping. Indeed, I first learned about [...]
