Vacuum Fills the Void – At Last!

9 September 2009 One Comment

So, my husband and my kids, and certain friends are quite certain that I have a “thing”, that I am obsessed, fixated on… vacuum cleaners. The stick, cordless, kind of vacuum. I know. So NOT succulent. “But if they made one that worked…” is my defense.

electrolux ergo rapidoAnd, I know that I’m not the only one. While at the vet’s office the other day, I spotted one the assistant’s emerging from a consultation room with her little stick vac. I had to ask about it. The whole front office crew got in on the conversation or, shall I say, the lament. We had tried them all – among them, the Dirt Devil Vacuum Broom, the Swivel Sweeper, even an Oreck commercial cordless vacuum. All with equal disappointment and wasted investment. I asked the crew about one that I had fawned over while at Lowe’s the other day: The Electrolux ErgoRapido. “Ah yes, we’ve heard about that one but haven’t tried it. Why don’t you let us know”. Passing the buck is an understandable reaction after such a series of letdowns.

I broke down and got it over the weekend. I think that I may have well cured my obsession. The Electrolux ErgoRapido, seems to be the answer to all my vacuum prayers:

  • It’s a two in one, with a stick/handheld combo. Only one thing to plug in. Cool.
  • The handheld has crevice and dusting tools (you know, for when I need to delegate such tasks).
  • It has a swivel head, so I can dance behind it though I don’t always wear heels when doing so.
  • It’s cute and looks like it was designed this century. Mine is lime green, but I’ve seen them in black, pink and orange.

I’ve read in one negative review that the battery charge doesn’t hold after a while. I don’t know about that yet. The rest of the reviews are practically glowing. So far my little Ergo is almost self-propelled and I’m in love. I prefer to use it on bare floors as it drags a bit on carpets but still does the job.

Seems like my obsession has turned to infatuation. I’m sure that my family will learn to deal with it. Oh, and I’ll need to tell the ladies at the vet’s office.

Sells for anywhere from $89.99 to $99.99 in a variety of retail locations, including Costco and Amazon.

I, too, found the ErgoRapido and have fallen in love. My Lowes had all of the choices plugged in and, boy am I glad they did. I probably wouldn’t have bought mine if they hadn’t because I have yet to find a stick vac that does the trick. The staying power is long enough to get the job done unless you’ve got a real mess, in which case, grab the regular vac. I love my little green machine!
