DIY Chocolate Body Paint ~ Last Minute Valentine’s Day Treat

Chocolate Body Paint

So, it's the 11th hour before Valentine's Day and you forgot to pick up that romantic little something for your beau (or belle). Ugh. What to do, what to do? Whip up your own DIY chocolate body paint. Uh-huh, uh-huh.

Because it's ever so naughty, and fun and messy, it's a surefire way to please your lover. And your inner chocolate lover. It's also terribly kitsch. But good kitsch is just the best.

You could go out and buy the stuff, but you're running out of time and, in any case, chocolate body paint will taste SO much better if it's homemade. And you know what's in it. Of course, you will have to set aside your low-carb/paleo/Whole30/keto/whatever regimen. But it's just for one evening. Delights await…

All you need are ingredients you already have at home: cocoa, butter, vanilla, sugar. It takes about 10 minutes to make. Super easy. The trickiest part is watching the sugar so that it just dissolves and doesn't burn. And it's not that tricky at all.

  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 pinch Kosher salt
  • 3 – 4 Tbsp water
  • 2 tsp butter
  • ¼ cup cocoa powder
  • ½ tsp vanilla
  • 1 tsp liqueur - to taste
  • You will also need:
  • Mason jar or microwave-safe container (for reheating before use)
  • Food grade paint brush

In a small saucepan combine the sugar, salt and water over medium heat. Bring to a boil without stirring and then reduce heat to simmer until the sugar is dissolved. Watch it closely. Sugar burns quickly.

Remove from heat. Add butter stirring with a whisk until melted.

Whisk in the cacao and liqueur and mix until completely smooth.

Transfer to a glass jar (preferably microwave-safe for easy reheating)

Microwave for 15 to 20 seconds before use. Test the temperature first. Alternatively, reheat with a double-boiler.

About the mess you will certainly be creating? Just use Oxiclean to wash the sheets!

PS: the jar I used here is obviously not microwave-safe. I will be dropping it in a pan of water to reheat it.
